Mikel Arteta reveals the one Arsenal star that has changed from last season
Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Fabio Vieira after his side defeated Manchester United 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The north Londoners found themselves trailing 1-0 in the first half following some sublime work from Marcus Rashford. But the Gunners hit back almost immediately through club captain Martin Odegaard.
Erik ten Hag’s side then thought they’d won the game late on when Alejandro Garnacho scored from a counter-attack in the 88th minute.
But the United attacker was adjudged to have been offside before Arsenal took advantage of their momentum, with Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus netting late goals to secure their team all three points. One player who made a big difference from the bench was midfielder Fabio Vieira.
Vieira won a penalty and registered an assist during last week’s draw against Fulham and the Portugal Under-21 international set up Jesus’ goal on Sunday afternoon.
After the full-time whistle, Arteta hailed the former Porto man, claiming that he has matured since his debut campaign last year.
“Every player has a chance to do that,” the Spaniard said when asked if Vieira would be given more minutes after the international break.
“Today we decided to start with Kai (Havertz) and we knew that Fabio would have a big impact, especially in the last few minutes if we needed something.
“Something has changed with Fabio, you notice it in the way the crowd are when he steps in compared to last year. He’s more mature, he’s more senior within the squad and his confidence is high, so I’m more than happy to have those options.”
