Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has been rumoured to be moving to Major League Soccer after losing his prominent role in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. However, the Italian coach denied the rumours at a press conference.

Luka Modric is not playing a prominent role this season at Real Madrid due to the arrival of new reinforcements and the high level required in all competitions.

The Croatian midfielder is playing at the highest level with the Spanish giants despite being 38 years old. As a result, he has been rumoured to be moving to Major League Soccer, where many veterans have decided to continue their professional careers.

However, according to Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, the midfielder is not considering following in Lionel Messi’s footsteps. “I don’t think he’s thinking about it, we think he is very important and he knows it, he doesn’t have that thought and we are happy with him,” he said in a press conference.

“I speak to him every day and I see a player who is obviously not happy not to play, but having said that he keeps his motivation high as well as his drive to bring something to the team, nobody can give what he gives in the dressing room. It’s his charisma, what he gives to his teammates.

“I understand him completely that not playing affects him, it happens to everyone else who loves Modric: fans, teammates, coaches, they all love him too,” Ancelotti added.
